South Wraxall Memorial Barn Dance report and ‘thank you’ message

The much anticipated and publicised Barn Dance was finally upon us last Saturday and we can quite positively report that it was a resounding success. From the mouth-wateringly tender and generous hog rolls, all calmly prepared and carved by Adam, to the atmospheric beat of the Electric Lobsters, with toe-tapping and thigh slapping barn dances, there were smiles and laughter and fun had by all.10353029_963023597060644_8437831171607211252_n[1]

The Barn suited the event perfectly and with some hay bales, bunting, flags, spotty tablecloths, flowers and the infamous village bar – the scene was set. Drinking, eating, dancing and the Auction. There was a great deal of competition for the prizes, all hotly contended and with much generosity we raised the substantial amount of £1,635 on the Auction.

The night finished off with Chris spinning his familiar and boppy dance tunes for those who had the energy to continue dancing. We do have to apologise to the Beer drinkers who came in thick and fast and drank us dry! Sorry, we weren’t expecting as many of you.

The overall profit from the Barn Dance is a fantastic £2,580 which now gives the Memorial Group enough to go ahead with the project.

For this final push we would like to thank:

Mark and Dinah for the use of their barn and all their hard work to have it ready in time!

The Link Group for their support in running the Barn Dance before and on the night

Adam and Diane for supplying and serving the Hog

The Longs Arms for the bread rolls, apple sauce and loan of tables

Bella and Andrew Walker for the hay bales

Chris Jones for the sound system and music

Tracey and Bob for donating the portaloo hire

Wadsworths for the beer donation

Thatchers for the Cider donation

The volunteers who helped on the Bar

The Electric Lobsters for their swinging sounds

Mark and Chris for expertly leading the Auction

All the very generous people who donated and bought Auction prizes

And everyone who played a part in supporting the Event!

We would also like to thank ALL the villagers who have donated in any way to the War Memorial Fund over the past few months.

An update with the next steps for the Memorial will follow soon.
