Across Country for Cancer Care: a 346 mile walk

Roger and Marian Brown, from Cumbria, are raising funds for Macmillan Cancer Support by walking 346 miles from Boston (Lincs.) to Barnstaple. WalkersThe walk takes place between 22nd May and 24th June 2016.

Roger and Marian are keen long-distance walkers. They have completed the 630 mile South West Coast Path twice (once in each direction); also many National Trails and other routes including the Pennine Way, West Highland Way, Tour du Mont Blanc, Wainwright’s Coast-to-Coast, Cotswold Way and South Downs Way, among many others.

Map Poster LogoThey have called this year’s walk “Across Country for Cancer Care”, a phrase coined originally by the Macmillan Charity for such walking events. Their route follows the Macmillan Way and Macmillan Way West, paths created in the 1990s specifically for the purpose of fundraising.

Roger and Marian have chosen to support Macmillan Cancer Support through personal knowledge and experience of the excellent work done by Macmillan nurses and other crucial support to patients and their families.

There is also a Macmillan Collection Box at the Longs Arms.

The Macmillan Way passes through South Wraxall.  Roger and Marian expect to arrive here on Thursday 9th June at about 5pm. They will be at The Longs Arms that evening and would be delighted to see people in the pub and talk about their walk. By then they will have walked 204 miles from Boston in Lincolnshire with (only!) 142 miles left to get to Barnstaple in Devon. They should have plenty of tales to tell.

Please support them in this very good cause.
