Afternoon Teas at St James’s

From Jean Atkin:

On Thursday we served our last Afternoon Tea of the summer and welcomed a large number of villagers and visitors. By mid-afternoon all the tables were taken and it was then a case of ‘picnic-in-the-pews’.

The weather was rather too blustery for tables outside, but it hadn’t discouraged people from joining us. We entertained friends from Bathford, Winsley, Bradford etc, as well passers-by just out for a walk or a drive. Villagers came to ‘catch-up’ with old friends and share the latest gossip.

Again, our regular bakers provided a delicious array of cakes, quiche and sandwiches – we couldn’t manage without them. As a result of everyone’s generosity we made £350 during the afternoon for church funds.

This year we have held Teas on four afternoons plus an All-day Election Special, resulting in a profit of over £1000.  Our thanks go to everyone for their continued support.
